ShapeShift cryptocurrency exchange has responded to an article published in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) that alleged that the platform had unwittingly laundered $9M for criminals. CEO of ShapeShift Erik Voorhees has accused the publication of omitting facts, and stated that the journalists’ conclusion is “incorrect and deceptive”. Voorhees has stated that countries on the US sanction list are not allowed to trade on the platform, while the company uses internal AML programs that analyze blockchain data. Even assuming the allegation is true, $9M is 0.15% of the platform’s exchange volume, noted Voorhees.
